Eskil Løkke

Look for reasons to turn, not reasons to keep going.

Eskil brings a rare mix to the mountains: equal parts courage, creativity, and calm decision-making. He’s drawn to the big, beautiful terrain around Hamperokken and Lyngen, open bowls, steep gullies, playful pillows, and the kind of technical couloirs that make you slow down and really commit. His personal motto says a lot about him: “If you can’t beat fear, do it scared.” Not as a push to take reckless risks, but as a reminder that confidence is built step by step, with good preparation, good partners, and the humility to turn around.

He loves the full rhythm of a great day: solid sleep, a proper breakfast, and a plan that holds up when the mountain starts giving feedback. Eskil is the friend who always has snacks (dried mango is a favorite), and the one who’s ready to capture the magic when the light hits and the smiles get wide, camera always within reach. He’s also learned, very practically, how small mistakes can become big ones: like showing up for the final push with ski-boot crampons… while wearing snowboard boots. Or discovering splitboard pucks have loosened at the top, forcing a careful ride down and a new rule for every tour: never leave without a screwdriver. Afterward, it’s chocolate milk, a hot shower, and a deep dive through the photos and clips because for Eskil, the best days are the ones you experience fully, then relive with good people.

Realizing I brought skiboot crampons while wearing snowboard boots right before the final push to the top

One tip for great days?

Guilty-pleasure song – giving you energy while skinning?

Still into You - Paramore

Your 'superpower' in the mountains?

Always ready to capture a great moment with my camera!

Your perfect day recipe

My perfect day would be waking up rested after a good night sleep, eating a solid breakfast, before going to ride a steep cuoloir with great friends. Taking lots of photos, making good choices in the mountain, and then finishing off with some light yoga, sushi and going through the videos and photos from the day.

Your mountain mantra

Look for reasons to turn, not to keep going.

How do you choose partners

I choose people whose decisions I trust, and who will push the limits of my comfort zone to improve my skills in the mountains.

Post ski ritual

Chocolate milk, shower, go through all the photos from the trip!

Coffee, tea or cocoa on tour?

Tea

Biggest gear fail (and lesson)?

The pucks on my splitboard came loose and I didn't notice until I was at the peak. Had to ride down with a loose binding. Now I never go without a screwdriver to tighten/fix any problem on bindings or board.
