Maj Stirn
Ski what inspires you, not just what looks good on Instagram.
In the Julian Alps, Maj skis with intention. A multi Slovenian national champion in slopestyle and big air, he brings creativity and precision from the park into steep gullies, open bowls, and technical couloirs in the backcountry. For Maj, skiing has never been about what looks good on a screen, it’s about what feels right in the moment. Fresh powder, storm days, spring corn, or quiet corduroy laps, he’s there to ski what inspires him, not what performs best on Instagram.
Experience has shaped that mindset. After triggering a hard slab that carried him 200 vertical meters through a gully, over trees and rocks and walking away untouched he gained a deeper respect for how fast things can escalate. Since then, he’s leaned even more into his strongest asset in the mountains: trusting his gut. He chooses partners carefully, skis with people he knows he can rely on, and keeps a steady balance between progression and restraint. A perfect day for Maj starts early, often in a lesser-known zone with close friends, chasing fresh lines and quiet moments. Push forward, but read the signs. That’s the rhythm he follows.

Go-to snack in your pack?
A sandwich made by my girlfriend.
An 'oh no' moment you learned the most from?
Skiing onto the hard slab, it released behind me. When I tried to cross the gully, it took me for a 200-vertical-meter ride over trees and rocks. Cheap mistake — completely unscratched.
One tip for great days?
Don't let the rush and the hype catch you off guard.
Guilty-pleasure song – giving you energy while skinning?
Whichever comes to mind at the moment. This season it’s "Danijela Martinović - Da je slađe zaspati" quite often 😂

A cold early-morning drive or hike to the zone, fresh snow, epic lines, and good friends — preferably in a remote, lesser-known area.

Keep pushing, but know your limits and respect the signs the mountain is giving you.
How do you choose partners
I only ski with people I know I can trust.

Step into the warm down slippers from my ski boots.

Tea
Biggest gear fail (and lesson)?
Broken ski boot, after a flat/trany landing. Always bring two pairs of boots!
