Nikolai Schirmer

Skiing’s pretty great

On a bluebird powder day in Tromsø, you’ll spot Nikolai by the easy grin and the way he reads the mountain like a close friend. Twice named European Skier of the Year, he isn’t chasing noise or numbers, just flow.

He’ll set a calm skintrack, feel the snow underfoot, check the line, and drop in when it all clicks. Some days that’s a wide-open bowl you can paint with big, lazy turns; other days it’s a shaded gully or a couloir that asks for precision and a steady breath. No soundtrack, just the hush of cold air and a thermos of tea with way too much honey.

He keeps life flexible enough to catch the right window, so when the snow turns deep and the sky turns crystal, he’s there with a few good friends and a simple plan: keep it safe, keep it playful. Later, he’ll log a couple of clips and a quiet note about what the day taught him. His mantra is as uncomplicated as his style: you’ll be fine.
