Chasing winter beyond the next horizon

Romain has a way of making winter feel bigger, like there’s always one more horizon to chase. Based between Harstad and Lyngen, he’s drawn to storm-day tree runs, spring missions, and those steep, snowy gullies where the light is flat but the stoke is high. He’s the kind of partner who gets you moving early, not to rush, but to give the day space, enough time for an extra skin up if conditions line up, and enough margin to keep decisions calm and clear.

Romain’s superpower is staying positive, even when things go sideways. And he’s honest about the learning moments: like the first time touring without ski brakes, forgetting to secure the leash, and watching a ski disappear down the mountain, an instant lesson in systems and routines. He’s also had the kind of gear day that makes you meticulous forever (a double binding failure), so he’ll happily remind you to check for ice in boot inserts and under the binding springs. His best tip is simple and very him: share the snacks. Add dried mango in the pocket, coffee on tour, and a post-ski ritual of drying boots properly, and you’ve got Romain’s recipe, good energy, good tempo, real respect for safety, and a mindset that turns even the tough days into “character building” ones.
