Finding the best snow

  • 2 min read

Many of us select our routes based on the best available snow. Weather forecasts, avalanche bulletins, observations and social media are some of many great sources. Skida give you all this in one place, it's called "Observations". You can find them in the map, enable the layer in the map menu, or browse through them in the feed.

Observations vary in quality and data. Some give you a full snowprofile with detailes of every layer in the snowpack, others is just a photo or a indication of an avalanche problem like whumpf sounds, cracks or cornices. We all love getting this information, but can we make you share it too? As we all know, sharing is caring, and if you provide helpfull insights for others, you're doing a deed. If it's good or bad snow, it's always. So if you see something of interest or you want to brag about you latest POW day, select the area, create a post and share what you feel like.

To provide this information we trust you as a community and several partners and open daata providers. We analyze and structure it in a way that makes it easier for you to understand, and in the end make better decissions. Remember that great snow often is deadly snow. Alwasy check the avalanche forecast and make your own decissions before and underway. If you feel uncertain about any of this we recomend finding a guide and taking an avalanche course. You find guides among our PRO partners or in the OAK app.
